Our Level 3 Drama students present Thornton Wilder’s Our Town—a moving, timeless exploration of everyday life, love, and loss in a small community.

This production is a significant part of their Level 3 assessment, showcasing the students’ acting and production skills. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see senior drama at its best and support the depth of work that goes into NCEA performance.

Performances are just one week away and we’d love to see strong support.

Youth Volunteer Week!

The Student Volunteer Army proudly presents Volunteer Week! Every day brings a new opportunity to support your community, meet new people, and make a real difference.

Alongside Volunteer Week comes TLBCFAHCDE (The Long Bay College First Annual House Can Drive Event). While the name is complex, the goal is simple: donate what you can and help support those in need. Last year, our food drive collected over 350 donations and supported 50+ local families. This year, we’re aiming to double it.

The Weeks Events:

All Day: Every morning before school, and at the beginning of interval and lunch, the Student Council will be outside the Auditorium steps ready to collect your donations. Place your donations in your house box to receive house points!

Interval:

✨ (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday): Help improve and maintain our school environment while gaining hands-on experience and giving back to the community. Meet at the property shed to work with the School Property Team.

🌿 (Wednesday Only): Our Student Volunteers will be taking a step outdoors and into the woods, weeding plants at Long Bay Primary.

Lunch:

🪴 (Monday): Plant seeds in pots and help maintain our School Garden. These pots will be handed out to students in Enviroweek, letting you make a real difference. Meet us outside the garden on Monday lunch.

🔵 (Tuesday): Join UNICEF for one large collaborative session, brainstorming and creating ways to support those in need. Meet us in O8 on Tuesday Lunch

📖 (Thursday): Join us in the library to sort, clean and create displays in our library. Meet outside the library – available to all year levels!

🧶(Friday): Learn to knit and work together to create blankets for those in need. Open to learners and those experienced in M15

Notice of Asbestos Removal Work, O Block

Notice of Asbestos Removal Work, O Block

Tuesday 19 May 2026

Kia ora Long Bay College community,

Morecroft Contractors Ltd, a licensed Asbestos Removalist (WorkSafe Class B Licence: RB16100163), is undertaking the removal of some Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs) from Long Bay College, O Block.

This removal work will be conducted between the hours of 8.00am and 5.00pm from 18 May 2026 and is expected to finish on 27 June 2026. The work may need to be rescheduled in the event of bad weather.

WorkSafe NZ was notified on 12 May 2026 that this licensed asbestos removal work is to be undertaken. Long Bay College management and the Board of Trustees have been consulted about the nature and timing of this work, together with the safety measures to be used.

The following safety measures will be put in place and maintained for the duration of this project:

  • Signs, barriers and/or temporary fencing will be installed.
  • PVA solution or water will be applied to asbestos containing materials to prevent airborne asbestos fibres and dust (as required).
  • Asbestos containing materials will not be broken, where possible.
  • Plastic will be used to cover horizontal surfaces and surrounds.
  • Asbestos containing material will be wrapped on site and disposed of at an approved site.
  • Air monitoring at the work site boundary will be in place for the duration of the work. If asbestos fibres above the allowable safe limit are detected, work will cease immediately and corrective measures applied.
  • An independent third party will carry out an inspection of the site on completion of the work and issue a clearance certificate.

There is no impact on teaching and learning in other areas of the school.

The Ministry of Education website has further information about the management of asbestos and procedures to ensure the safety of all involved in or affected by the work, at the school and community. This can be found at www.education.govt.nz/school/property-and-transport/health-and-safety-management/asbestos.

Additional information about asbestos removal and Asbestos Removal Licences can be found on the WorkSafe NZ website at www.worksafe.govt.nz/topic-and-industry/asbestos or by phoning 0800 030 040 (24 hours).
